Le Shan

The six-million-strong city of Le Shan is augmented by hordes of summer tourists who descend upon the city to visit the celebrated Big Buddha, tallest in the world.  Begun in AD 713, 90 years of construction finally completed what is still today the world's largest Buddha.  There is a set of zig zag stairs that takes you from the top of the head all the way to the toes where you can see its manicured toes.  The entire descent should take about 10 min, but with the crowd and stopping to take pictures - it felt like an hour.

Emei Shan

One of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China, Emei Shan lies 20km west of Le Shan.  The two mountain peaks are said to resemble the graceful curves of a pair of well-defined eyebrows.  The day that we went was very overcast and cold so we decided not to climb all the way up.  Since we also felt that over the past couple months we had done enough hiking, we cheated this time and took the tram up.  We had to rent nice colorful jackets because it was so cold and we weren't prepared for the weather.
