River Rafting & Camping

American River (August 5 - 7, 2005)

Okay, so we only took 1 picture this entire trip and I thought I would've had a copy by now, but apparently not =P

If I had the one and only picture you would've seen what we looked like after all being super tired and with no one showering for 2 days =P.

Since you're at this page - let me tell you all about the rafting trip anyways =).

Friday night I flew up to Oakland, CA where Event Staff picked me up from the airport and off to Sacramento we went along with Chester and Laura in the car too.  After a supposed 19min drive down a very bumpy and twisty road we finally arrived at our campsite.  Although to be expected, I doubt any of us got good sound sleep.  You were either up late drinking and being loud the entire night or you were like me in the tent trying to pass out but couldn't stop laughing at all the nonsense going on outside.

So 7am Saturday morning arrives and with barely an hour sleep (I'd assume at most and probably in combination of whatever time you accumulated for sleep), we were all up and packing to leave the campsite (I'll come back to this point). So now it's time to head back up the extremely (did I use the word 'very' earlier? I meant extremely!) bumpy road back to civilization.  We meet the company that's going to take us river rafting, we drive another 45 minutes to the launch site, go through a little tutorial/safety talk, and off we go river rafting.

There was a total of 20 in our group and since it's 6 to a raft, 4 unfortunate souls got stuck with our group =) - luckily they were around the same age as us.  The whole experience overall was extremely fun and I totally recommend it.  A few in our group got knocked out of the raft while on some wild rapids but no one was seriously injured.  We rafted on a level 3-4 river with one level 5 due to flooding earlier this spring that caused the rapid to get a little more wild.

Our day of rafting started early in the morning and went to about 5pm.  We spent the next couple hours trying to find a campsite which if we had left some stuff or a car at our original site then we would've been fine.  Luckily, we eventually found a campsite which actually turned out to be better than the night before.  Unfortunately, we were all pretty tired and the night ended earlier than we had hoped.

This is when we took our group picture which did I mention... I don't have =)

Things to note for next time: bring a water proof disposable camera!!!
