The Story of Wilmot
The
word "Wilmot" has taken on a whole new meaning ever since 1327
Wilmot Court Apartment #4 was taken over by Leslie, Je-Yi, Karina and
Caroline in the fall of 1999. This coveted apartment was passed down
from Karina's brother and has since seen its share of crazy and memorable
times. But it isn't just the comfy couches and the spiral staircase
that has attracted hundreds (possibly thousands) to this little corner
of campus.
Inside this apartment resides five girls (Caroline moved out at the
end of the first year and Chrissy moved in from next door) who have
each added their unique energy to the magic that is Wilmot. Between
the five of them, the Wilmot Girls probably know just about everyone
on campus and the apartment has been the host for group meetings,
epochal parties, late night food fests and music videos, to name a
few of Wilmot's many uses.
As a social gathering spot, Wilmot had no equal. At all hours of the
day or night, people would invade (and often stay overnight, crowded
onto the floor or the futon), messing up the living area and consuming
mass quantities of food. Everyone has had great conversations sitting
amidst the twinkling Christmas lights that are perpetually aglow on
the walls. Conversations about friendships, relationships, personal
issues, spirituality, school and just about anything at all.
Karina, Je-Yi and Leslie have practically lived together since freshman
year and it's amazing to see how they mesh and coalesce so well together.
They've gone from the "RICE Girls" to "Three Dumplings
and a Mandoo" to the final "Wilmot Girls."
Amidst the zoo that was often Wilmot, the girls found time to study
and graduate (except for Caroline who is a year younger) which is an
achievement that should not be overlooked.
We just wanted to put this public appreciation up for all those who
have come to know and love the Wilmot Girls and to thank them for
opening their home to us. To the ladies of Wilmot, allow us to applaud
your achievements and to celebrate your existence!
