I was listening to Omarion's Ice Box...the song which goes "There are sunspots where my heart used to be."

I could have swore, that whoever produced the song, sampled Chrono Trigger. Anybody else hear this??

The other day I read that something like 35,000 Iraqi civilians were killed last year alone. While official numbers are hard to come by, the total dead from the war including military personal may exceed over 500,000.

I feel like this concept of war in the middle east is so orthogonal to american thinking and way of life. It just does not compute or sink in.

No matter what we can do to repair the past or to make amends, there will be an entire generation of Iraqis that will grow up hating America and everything remotely related to it. It doesn't help when there is little integrity or sense of purpose for American soldiers to be in the middle east. Mishandling of prisoners as well as far reproachable crimes like murder and rape of young teenage girls...

Its like John Kerry and his fitting freudian slip, "If you're stupid you end in Iraq." Of course the best and brightest are not sent. Its just unfortunate that american soldiers are what the rest of the world sees of this country, that and overly paid actors and sports figures, and politicians.

I feel like this country has lost its sense of self and what it stands for. Is there still hope for us?
